About

War Child

War Child is an acclaimed humanitarian organization that has, for 25 years, supported the most vulnerable people living in some of the most complex humanitarian environments in the world, including Afghanistan, Sudan, South Sudan, Yemen, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Today, as the world faces the worst refugee crisis since World War II, 468 million children – that’s one child in every five - live within conflict zones. War impacts children in multiple ways, and the negative impact can be felt for years after the guns are silenced. War Child designs programs that give children the best chance of overcoming these challenges and growing up to see a brighter future. War Child believes that the impact of war on children is one of the most critical crises facing the world and is outspoken about our shared responsibility to act.

“I am very grateful to War Child for giving me the chance to be in school today.”

Our Focus

We help children, families, and communities break the cycle of poverty and violence by empowering people of all ages to dream, aspire and achieve.

Education

Globally, a staggering 250 million children are out of school, with many denied their right to learn because of armed conflict.

For a quarter of a century, War Child has pioneered creative and innovative solutions to bring children back to the classroom.

Opportunity

War Child provides vocational and skills training to parents and young people and offers guidance and financial support to help them establish sustainable businesses, lift themselves out of poverty, and regain a sense of security and independence.

Protection

War Child empowers women and children with the skills and tools to advocate for themselves and their communities. This can take many forms, from youth-led initiatives on peace and conflict management, to radio broadcasts on the rights of children, and women-led programming.
